Summer Memories

Glowing heat and the radiant sun
hold me back in my past
It brings all my summer memories
boiling to the top.
The cherished and broken heart
Joyful days of biking
Cruel embarrassing crushes
that infected a foolish child's heart
Building forts in the deserts
Walking to the Pool
Coming home at dark
before that last streetlight sparked.
My childhood returned to me
through a simple rising sun
Video games completed
Rollerblades knees skidded
The taste of blood from danger
filled adventure scars
The misty dreams of yesterday
can never be repeated.
Childhood days were spent
with no change to spare
All the summer brings
is my hopeless urge
To return back to the days
of Goosebump books and shimmery pogs
mudpies, boybands, straggly hair, and stray dogs
The days where the world was our toy box
and we had one in our room
just in case the world was too much
to much for us to handle
How silly we were
to worry about the world
being too much
When we ourselves
were so little.
